We’re looking for a dirt-loving, tree-hugging, sustainability advocate to join our company!
If you enjoy working outside and aren’t afraid of rotting food, this job may be your calling. Here at Green Heron Compost, we are passionate about recycling Knoxville’s food waste so it can be used to nourish the earth and combat climate change.
Work 3-5 days per week (M-F), 3-8 hours per day depending on route length.
Please note: This position can be very smelly, physical, and dirty. This is an outdoor job that requires you to easily lift 50 lbs and maneuver rolling trashcans that can weigh up to 200 lbs.
Main Responsibilities Include:
- Driving collection route in a pickup truck and tow trailer with loads of food scraps or finished compost
- Tracking and reporting waste weights and other data
- Cleaning buckets and totes
- Misc. maintenance and upkeep
Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications and skills:
- First and foremost, a clean driving record and safe driving habits
- Can comfortably lift 50lbs and work outdoors in all weather
- Experience driving and backing a trailer (training provided as needed)
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Can easily self-manage without supervision
- Doesn’t mind getting dirty and doesn’t gag at the scent of rotting food!
Bonus qualities and skills:
- Knowledge of the composting process or experience composting
- Background/Degree in sustainability or similar field
- Experience with agriculture, farming, gardening, landscaping
- Background in waste management or similar field
- Background in commercial driving
- Experience using a tractor (training provided as needed)
Pay is $12/hour during training and $14/hour after completing training
~3-5 days per week (M-F), ~4-8 hours per day depending on route length (no weekends)(no remote work available).
